Nicola Carse is a lecturer in Primary Education at the University of Edinburgh. Prior to undertaking her PhD and working in Higher Education Nicola was a primary school teacher. It was whilst teaching that she developed an interest in primary physical education and undertook a Postgraduate Certificate in Primary Physical Education at the University of Edinburgh. Following this postgraduate study Nicola left primary teaching to pursue a full-time PhD at the University of Edinburgh which she completed in 2012. Her main areas of research include primary physical education, teacher professional learning, curriculum development, complexity thinking, self-study and practitioner inquiry. Nicola is the convenor of the European Primary Physical Education Network (EPPEN) and co-convenor of the Scottish Physical Education Research Network.
